Welcome

We would like to welcome you to Amorcriolo Scholarship Fund (ASF). Amorcriolo Scholarship Fund was founded with a vision to enhance the quality of education by providing financial assistance to deserving students and strengthening the local communities by advancing college education among Cape Verdean Americans which is one of the largest ethnic groups in Massachusetts . In support of our mission to triple the rate of Cape Verdean Americans earning college degrees, during the past year ASF has dedicated itself to become a point of intersection where the large members of community can agree on, leveraging and creating public awareness and partnership in support of its works.

Challenges We Face

Cape Verdean Americans are one of the largest ethnic minority in Massachusetts Yet they have one of the highest high school drop out rate and the lowest college graduation rate of any group in Massachusetts. We believe there are two key obstacles making a college education more difficult for Cape Verdean Americans, and the Amorcriolo Scholarship is working to address them.

First, With college tuition and related costs continuing to skyrocket, the financial resources needed to support a college education constitute the most serious challenge for many Cape Verdean American families. Too many committed parents lack the resources to finance thei r c hildren's education. Amorcriolo Scholarship Fund wants to allay those fears and provide a means for these students to reach a higher standard. By helping to alleviate some of the financial burdens, we hope to enlist the help of community leaders, teachers and parents by stressing the basics, and hopefully sparking more interest and creativity about education. This direct involvement is one of the best ways to help support ou r c ommunities. It gives back to where it is needed and that is the education of our youths.

In addition to financial support, Cape Verdean families often lack experience with the college application and financial aid processes and a cultural commitment to higher education. Even today, many Cape Verdean college students are the first in their families to pursue a college degree, and many forms and procedures required for admission and financial aid can be intimidating, confusing, and inaccessible to families that lack experience with college. Amorcriolo Scholarship Fund (ASF) offers Brochures, and web site designed to demystify the admissions and financial aid processes and provide students and families with the information, support, and encouragement they need.
